Children and Teens

Individual Therapy for Children and Teens
Your child may be a good candidate for individual therapy. Evidence-based psychotherapy has been shown to improve children’s feelings of self-efficacy, strengthen social relationships, and help children function more effectively in their environments. We predominantly draw from cognitive-behavioral techniques when working with children, but also utilize an integrative approach.
Child-focused individual therapy could include:
- Individual social skills training
- Therapies focused on helping children cope with anxiety, anger and depression
- Strategies aimed at reducing impulsivity, inattention and hyperactivityE
- Emotional regulation training
- Self-management or coping strategies, fostering greater independence
- Adjusting to life changes (i.e. parental divorce or separation)
Treatment for Children
Family Counseling Associates provides specialized counseling treatment for children as young as 3 years old. This includes a focus on developing skills, behavior management, and problem solving strategies for a healthy, fulfilling life.
Our treatment aims to help children reduce impulsive behavior and hyperactivity, as well as provide comfort in social situations, manage anxiety and depression and foster a greater sense of independence.
Sometimes issues surface when children are faced with stress or life changes, such as a parental divorce. We can help your child navigate through these uncharted territories and overcome personal challenges. We also involve families and parents in order to provide the best chances of success.
Treatment for Teens
Teenagers often require a unique treatment plan that differs from adults and children. Sensitive teen years can spark uneasiness and overwhelm as unfamiliar situations occur. If your teen is experiencing stress, anxiety, depression, or is having trouble functioning in everyday life, we can help.
We strive to help your teen cope with anxiety and other issues through fostering strategies they can put to use every day. Our safe and welcoming environment encourages teens to share their feelings and fears in order to find ways to overcome them. During treatment, we use a variety of techniques to foster mindfulness, improve impulse control, and regulate emotions.
