Michael Reed MA, LMHC
I am a licensed mental health therapist with a focus in counseling children, teenagers and families and their respective needs. Much of my focus has been on short-term, goal-oriented therapy, utilizing a strengths-based approach, which incorporates several different therapeutic interventions: cognitive behavioral therapy, motivational interviewing, elements of dialectical behavioral therapy and trauma-recovery among others. My goal is to build a connection, rapport and trust with everyone with whom I have the privilege of working and to collaborate together to identify goals and therapeutic progress.
Education and Experience
I have a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from Eastern Nazarene College and a Master of Arts in Counseling Psychology from Gordon-Conwell Seminary. My work experience has been largely in home, community and school based therapy, working with teenagers and family systems. I have spent many years working within the scope of the Children’s Behavioral Health Initiative, a relatively new group of programs within Massachusetts aimed at providing comprehensive therapeutic support for children and families. My work has involved crisis-stabilization therapy with at-risk youth, home-based family therapy and acting as program coordinator and supervisor for a local therapeutic mentoring program. I have also been actively involved in organizing and overseeing school-based therapeutic programs, working closely with school administration and faculty to address the social and emotional needs of their students and also to provide comprehensive support and collaboration for teens and families in need
