Allison Shanley is a doctoral student in the Psy.D. program at William James College in Newton, MA. She completed her Bachelor of Science at Sacred Heart University in Fairfield, CT. Additionally, she has attained two Master of Arts degrees, one in counseling psychology at Saint Elizabeth University (formerly College of Saint Elizabeth) in Convent Station, NJ and the other in professional psychology at William James College.
Prior to training at Family Counseling Associates, Allison has treated adolescents aged 13-18 with disorders ranging from depression and anxiety to personality disorders and trauma. She has also conducted long term individual therapy with adults who experience depression, anxiety, trauma, and obsessive-compulsive disorder. Additionally, she has had experience training in short-term treatment programs for both adults and adolescents, as well as with adults with addiction.
During those training experiences she conducted groups and case managed clients by advocating for their treatment and services. Before coming to Massachusetts for graduate school, she worked at a day program with adults with mental illness where she facilitated therapeutic groups and kept a caseload of long-term clients. She has also worked in a medical office as a medical receptionist answering phones, greeting patients, and handling important and time sensitive medical issues. Allison aims to support and motivate clients by effectively providing them with evidence-based treatments which will help them explore different healthy coping skills and strategies they can use to manage stress and symptoms. Allison strives on building a strong therapeutic alliance that enables a foundation based on trust, open communication, and collaboration.
