Ed Hannifin MA, LMHC
Psychotherapist – Andover, MA
I worked primarily with adolescents, young adults and their families for over twenty years, primarily as clinical director of several group homes. At Family Counseling Associates, I work primarily with adult individuals and with couples.
I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC), with a master’s degree in counseling psychology from Lesley University and an undergraduate degree in communications from Boston University.
I have life-long interests in the nature of human mental health and optimal human functioning, with training in Three Principles/Health Realization psychology, neurofeedback, hypnotherapy, NLP, trauma informed therapy and stress reduction.
In addition to my formal degrees and license, I lean into the life experience and training I picked up along the way in communication, creativity and in the hospitality industry, all of which have taught me the importance of good listening, rapport building, flexible thinking and a welcoming attitude.
In the realm of neurofeedback I have been described by Larry Hirshberg, Ph.D., of the Neurodevelopment Center as “one of the ten best neurofeedback providers in the state.” I also occasionally employ emWave heart rate variability training in my practice, another form of biofeedback which promotes relaxation.
My primary interest and competency is helping people to rediscover their own innate capacity to live with a clear, calm, centered, present, peaceful and flexible mind. I enjoy helping people to find their own capacity for insight and for change from within.
My approach is empathetic, welcoming, low key, holistic, good humored and respectful. I also try very hard to keep things simple. Outside of work I spend time with Karen, my wife of over twenty-six years, and my son Edge. I’m also a stepdad and foster dad to four adult young men. I’ve been a guitar player and songwriter for over forty-five years, and have played in the Boston area and on the North Shore. In the past I co-founded a coffeehouse and a songwriting collaborative. I enjoy biking, camping, reading and writing.
