Renee Giard MSW,LICSW
I am a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker providing individual and family therapy to individuals ages 16 and older. My goal is to provide a warm, collaborative and non-judgmental environment where it is safe for clients to explore issues that may be preventing them from living the life they want for themselves. I strongly believe in the power of therapeutic alliance and work to develop a supportive, caring, and honest relationship with each client.
I practice from a strengths-based perspective and use an integrative approach to treatment. I draw from many different therapeutic modalities but most often rely upon Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, Narrative Therapy, and Solution-Focused Therapy. I believe that everyone possesses innate strengths. I work with clients to build upon these strengths in order to foster healthy change and personal growth. I strive to empower individuals and help guide them toward making life changes and accomplishing self-identified goals.
Education and Experience
I received my Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from St. Joseph’s College of Maine and earned my Master’s Degree in Social Work from Boston College. My work experience has been largely in healthcare settings where I have focused on providing clients and families with psychosocial assessment and supportive counseling related to adjustment and coping with chronic and terminal illness, bereavement, life transitions, anxiety, depression, and stress management. Throughout my clinical work, I have witnessed the need for compassion, support and comprehensive care through challenging times. I have grown to appreciate and work to emphasize the importance of holistic care focused on all aspects of emotional, physical, social and spiritual health.
