Melissa Gearwar, MA, LMHC
I am a Licensed Mental Health Clinician (LMHC) who has clinical experience in a variety of areas. My professional work has focused on trauma recovery, women’s issues, substance abuse counseling, adolescent treatment, anxiety and mood disorders. I use a strength based approach to treatment with psychodynamic, cognitive behavioral and holistic practices. No matter what one’s past encompasses, I believe there is always potential for growth and understanding at any phase of life.
Education and Experience
I received a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Loyola College in Maryland and a Master of Arts Degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling with a Holistic Specialization from Lesley University. I have had particular training in domestic violence and rape crisis counseling, as well as substance abuse treatment. My past clinical roles include Clinical Coordinator for an adolescent male group home, Program Director for Substance Abuse services, and Mental Health Counselor at the OCD Institute of McLean’s Hospital. I have had the opportunity to collaborate closely with schools, medical providers, probation departments, and the Department of Children and Families. As a therapist, it is my goal to create a nonjudgmental setting, which promotes a means for self care and support.
