Alla Palma, PsyD
Dr. Alla Palma obtained her undergraduate degree in psychology from Temple University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and went on to earn a master’s degree in psychology from Teachers College, Columbia University in New York. She subsequently earned a second master’s degree, and a doctoral degree, in clinical psychology from the Ferkauf Graduate School of Psychology at Yeshiva University in New York, where she concentrated in clinical neuropsychology and clinical geropsychology. Dr. Palma attended an American Psychological Association accredited pre-doctoral internship at the James J. Peters Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Bronx, New York, where her internship training included individual, family, and group therapy in in-patient, outpatient, and nursing home settings. She obtained specialty training in substance abuse and dual diagnosis, and conducted inpatient neuro-cognitive consultations, as well as outpatient neuropsychological and psychdiagnostic evaluations. Additional training included outpatient individual, family, and couples therapy at Parnes Family Psychological and Psychoeducational Services Clinic and Jacobi Hospital Medical Center in New York.
Dr. Palma’s practicum training has afforded her a solid foundation for providing short- and long-term cognitive behavior and psychodynamic psychotherapeutic interventions, including individual, family, and brief psycho-educational therapies. Dr. Palma enjoys helping clients by teaching them to deal with life stressors by using coping skills that can change the way they process information, the way they interact with others, and the way they manage their mood and behavior. Dr.Palma uses mainly cognitive behavioral and evidence-based approaches in her practice, and emphasizes flexibility and inventiveness in her clinical approach to helping clients make change. She firmly believes that the goal-directed and collaborative nature of cognitive-behavioral therapy allows individuals the opportunity to develop and use tailored approaches to create change. Dr. Palma’s clinical specialty interests include working with clients to reduce symptoms of depression and anxiety, manage stress, improve coping with chronic illnesses, reduce and manage substance abuse, and to create behavioral health.
