Nuning T. Murphy, MS. Psy. D. (Clinical Coordinator)
Thank you for visiting our website! I am a licensed psychologist with many years of experience working with children, adolescents, families, and adults. I have worked with children and adolescents who have adjustment disorders, depression, anxiety, attention-deficient/hyperactivity disorder, behavioral/conduct disorder, substance abuse, and peer pressure/bullying. I have experience helping adults with depression, anxiety, life transition/adjustment disorders, post-traumatic stress disorder, mood disorders, relationship difficulties, bereavement, and women with self-esteem issues. My experience also includes working with families who are facing difficult challenges such as marital issues, separation issues, and family conflicts. I also have knowledge and training in health psychology. Some areas of health psychology include but are not limited to chronic headaches, fatigue, sleep disorders, stress management, diabetes, obesity, fibromyalgia, and other health related problems.
My approach to treatment is primarily cognitive-behavioral therapy with other approaches interwoven like psychodynamic and humanistic therapy. I believe that in the right supportive and trusting environment, people can grow, foster, and change if they have the motivation and desire to make these changes in their lives. I can provide the environment that you need to help make this step forward to becoming a better self. Therapy can be a powerful tool to help you discover different aspects of yourself that you never thought you might have, such as inner strength, resiliency, and better understanding of how you can take control of your life.
Education and Experience
I received my Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from Boston College and my Master of Science degree in Counseling Psychology from Northeastern University. I also received my Doctoral Degree in Clinical Psychology from the Massachusetts School of Professional Psychology. My first experience in the field of mental health and psychology was working at McLean-Franciscan Child and Adolescent Mental Health Program on the inpatient psychiatric unit. From there, I have worked and trained at various settings such as an adolescent residential treatment program, emergency/crisis services, community outpatient services, a college counseling center, and at a health center working in close collaboration with primary care physicians in the area of health psychology. I also have worked collaboratively in the past with the juvenile and district courts, Department of Youth Services, and Department of Social Services. I was a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) for over 7 years before I became a licensed psychologist.
